About the Company

The Norfolk Redevelopment Housing Authority (NRHA) independent political subdivision of the Commonwealth of Virginia. It was established in 1940. Its charter is to build and manage safe, decent and affordable housing for the City of Norfolk. The Authority manages single family, multi-family, assisted and elderly housing properties. It is also involved in conservation and redevelopment projects.

Profile

Prior to joining NRHA, Mr. Griffin spent 28 years at IBM in various professional and managerial positions within the Human Resource function. During his tenure he was involved in manufacturing, development and division/corporate headquarters functions. He has managed Employee Relations, Management/Employee Education and Employment/Placement functions.

A substantial personal and corporate retirement fund allowed Mr. Griffin to take early retirement from IBM. His goal was to broaden his professional horizon as well as to make a "give back" social contribution. He joined NRHA in 1995 as a means of achieving these goals. During his tenure at NHRA Mr. Griffin’s focus has been in guiding the Agency’s transition from a traditional, hierarchical authority to a flattened, entrepreneurial organization. In achieving this goal he has used manger/employee training programs; compensation repositioning, evaluation program and organizational engineering technologies to build a collaborative, team based organization.

In addition to his association with NHRA, Mr. Griffin maintains a small consulting firm named CREATIVE SOLUTIONS - Human Resources Associates. The firm accepts narrowly targeted assignments that are intended to produce visible and material results. The firm is particularly interested in serving public, nonprofit and governmental agencies.

Mr. Griffin holds a Masters in Personnel Administration/Counseling and a Bachelors degree in Psychology. In addition he holds certification in multiple instruments and has had special training in Addiction Therapy from the University of Miami.
